Another busy day...

of special training for the year.  It is always a heavy day when we do this, but in this day and age, I can see the value of it.  Our officers were so kind and very helpful as we talked and practiced through safe practices.  I am thankful for those that serve and protect our community!!!  I am thankful for a home where I can come and rest my heart and mind after this type of day.   I am thankful for children who make me laugh from across the miles.  I am thankful that my love is next to me in his recliner!  A new recipe for supper tonight...

First official day of inservice

What teacher doesn't have a curling iron and makeup bag on their desk with all their teacher notes?!  This K5 teacher does this year!  Still no power...and we are down a vehicle...so Ted dropped me off at school on his way to work at 7:30am.  I did my hair and makeup at my desk.  Then I went for a walk to the office to make a cup of coffee!  I am thankful for electricity at school...and a cup of coffee to fight off the effect of no sleep.
Working on all sorts of projects and focusing on all the information from our meetings...here comes a new school year!!!!  I feel like we just finished one last week...and we are starting a new one already.

"What are you going to do for your birthday?"

I'm going to spend the day at school getting ready for the new year!  I wore my vintage 1969 t-shirt and got well wishes throughout the day.  My co-workers gathered at the door as we got updates and then sang spur of the moment!
Mari and Fancy came to see me with a special birthday bag and hugs.
Love this!
Flowers and chocolate from my love!
Cuddles from puppies!
Chats with hard-working man!

And then...checking in on our rental that has been a mess and we are having to work through stuff...
that is yucky.  We uncovered roaches and some of the causes...
It was a dark, stormy night!  Really...a strong storm blew through with downpours, thunder, lightning, and strong winds.  Alisa let us know power could be out at home.  Oh...ok!
"You knew I was crazy when you married me!  And here I am still making days memorable!"  Be still my heart...what a romantic!  We both were shaking and shivering at the thought of what is crawling around us.
"We gave them a nice place and they trashed it!"  The walls were neutral.  The floors were stained.  Tenants painted the walls fire engine red...then re-painted them white after they learned of our displeasure.  They painted the floors burgundy...which are also splattered with the white paint, food splotches, and sticky residue.  It truly is an amazing experience that is not over!
"Hey...there is a song about cockroaches...La coo ca Rocha, La coo ca Rocha...how about Mexican for a birthday supper?!  We started our summer with a Mexican flair...let's end it with one!"  The first place we chose was without power.  We noticed some downed branches as we drove.  We noticed that there were some long lines at gas stations.  "What happened?  What did we miss?"  I couldn't pull up anything on my phone...calls weren't going through and messages were taking forever.  "Hmmmm". We found another place...got food fast...lots of it and had to take home most of it!  I guess we weren't as hungry as we thought.  OR we ate too many chips with salsa as we waited.
Still feeling itchy and shivery about what we dealt with...and looking forward to taking showers!
Birthday churros!!!
We got home...and there was no power...it dawned on us that NO power equals NO hot showers!  We threw our clothes downstairs and used baby wipes to make us feel as good as we could.  We lit candles and soon enjoyed the quiet.  Our house smelled like a gift shop and coffee shop combined.  God sent cooler weather and we were able to rest...not sleep really...because the dogs were restless and generators were running in the neighborhood for awhile.  OHHH...that's why the long lines at gas stations! My 53rd birthday was memorable in many different ways!

Lots of opportunities to date lately!

"Do you want to ride with me to go....?"  has been a recent question lately that I usually jump on now before school starts!  Sunday afternoon called for some caffeine to enable us to get over the afternoon slump.  We laughed at our choices...my fluffy drink and Ted's little cup packed with a punch (double espresso).

Chili cheese dip for community group!
Ready for bed?!  This is what she does...have duck and claim spot on the bed.

Saturday smokin'

What a beautiful day out for smokin' a whole chicken!
Hanging out in the garage...looking at things that could be organized...but just sat together talking and laughing and appreciating the time!

They knew there was something good up on that counter!

Crafty times

Mari and I walked around Hobby Lobby the other day and I was inspired to use pieces I had at home!  Alisa and I sat at the table and did some crafty things!  Alisa signed up for the block party in our town in a couple weeks.  She is crocheting up a storm!
I have made some cards to package up.  I hope that she can see all her hard work sell!  The snugglers are so cute and soft.  She has a variety of items in a wide range of pricing hoping to appeal to many different people.

Cleaning, sorting, purging, organizing...

I have a pile to throw away, to donate, and to pass on to other teacher friends.  We start inservice next week...and I think that all the busy non-important work is done.  Now I can focus on lessons and notes and  meetings.
Everything is wiped down.  I need to vacuum.  I need to find the rest of my chairs.  I have name tags.
I was going to do a different theme...but it was going to be a lot of work...so I pulled out my woodland friends again.  It just fits this time of year here in Michigan.
Year 8 in kindergarten begins Tuesday, September 6, 2022.  Right now, I am delighting in the last few days of summer break and all the new school year things!

Meeting the new furry cousin and babysitting!

Happy Monday!

Slow Monday mornings are coming to an end soon...almost time for school to start!  It is a cloudy day...and another cup of coffee with a muffin that Alisa made before she left to work is just perfect as I plan for our K5 year...number 8 for me!
