This song has been in my head for the last two weeks.

Since anywhere I drive around here, the mountains are in the distance, I have been meditating on the truth of this song.  I am so thankful for the beauty of the Tennessee mountains...as well as the hills, hollows, and valleys.  God gives us what we need to focus on at just the right time.

Bigger than all my problems

Bigger than all my fears
God is bigger than any mountain
That I can or cannot see
Bigger than all my questions
Bigger than anything
God is bigger than any mountain
That I can or cannot see

Bigger than all the shadows
That fall across my back
God is bigger than any mountain
That I can or cannot see
Bigger than all the confusion
Bigger than anything
God is bigger than any mountain
That I can or cannot see

Bigger than all the giants
Fear and unbelief
God is bigger than any mountain
That I can or cannot see
Bigger than all my hang ups
Bigger than anything
God is bigger than any mountain
That I can or cannot see

Tuesdays are for Bible study

We are going through the book of Ezekiel and as I listened, I noticed how intent we all were.  This is a book I have not studied...ever...and barely have any markings and no notes in the margins.  It was convicting to me how little time is given to these OT books.  I have been in church a long time.  Over these last nine months, I have realized how little preaching and teaching I have heard from the books we have been hearing taught in our church here.  I am thankful!  And it has been helpful in many ways!

Weekend Getaway to Bryson City, NC

Ted was able to take time off on Friday afternoon and we headed south to North Carolina for our 28th wedding anniversary getaway.  We drove in and out of rain for a little bit.  Rainstorms coming through the mountains are no joke!  But then it all cleared off and the sun came out.
We stayed at the Stonebrook Lodge.
It was warm!  We walked next door to Wyze Guys for supper.  We had yummy burgers and pickle fries!
A pretty view from the balcony!  But the week had taken its toll and we crashed early!
Ted had made reservations for us to ride the GSMR.  We walked to the depot and waited to board at 10:00am.
Another beautiful day in the Smokies!
Watching people...and dodging people with their heads down on their phones while walking.  Uff da!

Even on time off...Ted had to deal with work issues.
"Are you smiling?"
"Yes."
Contemplating life...and listening to other passengers talk.  Ted had reserved seats in a First Class car that was for the 21 and older crowd.  After watching all the people dragging little children down to the loading areas, I was very thankful!  Naughty children with mean speaking parents for four hours in an enclosed space does. not. sound. relaxing. at. all.  And can I say, I am appalled by how parents speak to their young children in public.  Talk about abusive and unloving...and everyone is just ok with it...my how things have changed since we were young!
We had a lovely (and calm and quiet) ride.  The steam engine pulled us west to the Nantahala Outdoor Center.  The Fontana Dam controls these waters.  The river had whitewater rafting, kayaking, and tubing available, but the water is between 40-50 degrees all year long!  No. Thank. You!
Back in the day, the government officials decided to flood the land that people owned, so they put houses on the water.  And, of course, the government had to figure out how to insert their power and collect tax money.  There are about 450 floating cabins on this lake.  Several people stood on the decks and waved as the train passed.

It truly was a time to be still...and for a time...there was no cell service.

Ted ordered a yummy lunch of roast beef and pork roast.  It was very tasty and the sweet tea was good.
We had an hour "layover" at the NOC, so we walked around and then found a place by the river to watch the kayakers come through and practice on the gates.

The sound of the water was soothing and peaceful.
Ready to board again!  This time...the diesel engines were pulling us back to Bryson City...now our car was at the back of the train.
Dessert was served on the return trip along with a side of the one-man-band!  He was an interesting character.
The car enjoyed "Sweet Caroline" and he was excited when people sang along with him.
This part of the trip went faster with the diesel engines pulling.  We were back to the station in 45 minutes...just as the pouring rain ended!
We didn't buy the tourist pictures...
but we did look at them and snap a picture.  The guy made the mistake when he took the picture to tell Ted that he didn't look happy.  Oh dude...just leave well enough alone!  And not a way to make a sale!  After a week of nasty people and crazy behavior...he wasn't in the mood for people to be snapping pictures...let alone strangers.
Hey...at least he looked...while he squeezed my hand tightly.  We are not the average tourists.  We will not pay $40 for a picture...ever.  But if you walk away...I will snap a picture of what we will miss...because EVERY SINGLE TIME Ted will mess it up on purpose!  Come to think of it, Teddy does it now too!
Want to see a man smile?  Give him a good meal!  We walked to Anthony's that night for supper.  We had to wait a little bit, but this pizza was so yummy it was worth it!
A walk back as the sun was setting...a water wheel...and construction!
It was a very nice time away!  Rest, holding hands, yummy food...
and beautiful sunsets and sunrises over the mountains of NC.
A foggy start for our trip back home...
a stop at a farm stand...
and another beautiful sunny day after the fog burned off!
We got to see first hand the damage to I-40 from Helene.  It is amazing to see...the lay of the mountains, the depth of the valley where the water collected, the small river that is right now, the power it took to move the land and highway, the number of vehicles that pass through the area...
the time it is taking to try to fix it...
a tunnel...
wondering if they will ever be able to get those lanes back for that approximately 15-20 mile stretch.
Back to our home state...seems weird saying that...
It was only 2...almost 3 hours away.  There are more places on our bucket list to explore in this mountainous region!
But for today...we are back home to share some fresh peaches and sweetcorn with the girls!  They took great care of our puppies and got to enjoy the pool too.
It is always fun to go away...but it is always nice to come back home too!

Keeping things lively!

Oakley is our toddler!  Always causing messes and getting into things.  She has toys spread out all over the house, but yet goes after the shoes, my face, Ted's feet, towels, rugs, clean laundry, toilet paper rolls, and ice cubes.  She did manage to do the llama in after all the years Chica and Velle played with it.  Oakley chewed the plastic eyeballs off and pulled stuffing out.  We had a moment of reflection before I  put the llama in the garbage.  Puppies are not smart enough to NOT eat the plastic parts and the synthetic stuffing.
Sunday night, I was trying to have a chat with her about behaving for the groomer.  This was her response...growling and trying to bite my fingers.
We went Monday morning to meet the groomer at the vet.  We were there for a half hour and Oakley came out all pretty.
No drugs were used.  She did not fight the gal who held her.  She did yip once when they got to her toe nails.  We have a plan to go every couple weeks to hang out with Mrs. Beckie and get used to her house with all the sights and sounds.  "Mom will leave to go to her Bible study and we will be friends!"  I appreciate her help and advice.  And now that she has figured out how to get up on the couch...a whole new world has opened up to her!
Ted left work a little early and we went to Yoders on Monday.  The kitchen was closed for the sandwiches we wanted.  New hours...they now close at 5pm!  We got to get the deli style sandwiches, fresh chips, and a Buckeye to split.  We came home and spent time in the pool and then had our picnic lunch/supper at the dining room table.  It was yummy!
It was so hot and I didn't feel like baking.  I made no-bake cookies for our last ESL class on Tuesday.
Tuesday, Ted and I left early to head to the plant and get set up.  He had executives coming in again and I had class.  The time to start came and went...no students.  Ted went to see what was going on...there was a mandatory meeting...and the HR manager and trainer neglected to inform me.  Bummer!  I was more annoyed to lose our last class than getting up early.  I made my way back home and fed the dogs breakfast.  I caught up on a couple other things and then headed to our first Bible study for the season.
It was such a blessing to be back together and catch up after being off for the summer.  It was the adult version of the first day of school!  The music and the teaching touched my heart.
Our table has gone beyond the Tuesday morning to make time to do lunch together every once in awhile...and we did it this week.  To sit around the table and hear the testimonies of these gals was so encouraging.  God is at work in the messy and hard times of life...in my life...in her life...here and there...near or far...all at the same time!  The care of ladies who are at various life stages ministers in a special way!  God knew I needed this to bolster me through the week.  When we sit with others, we learn to not focus on our life and problems.  When we sit under the teaching of God's Word, we learn how to do life and expect problems.  When we are honest...that life is messy and life is hard...we see that others are covered with the messy and hard too...and we can cry together, pray together, and laugh together.  I am thankful for this season of life.
This little oak branch fell during Wednesday's storm.  I picked it up yesterday and snapped a picture.  We won't always have sunny, beautiful days.  There will be storms...it will get rough and loud...but we need the rain and nitrogen from the lightning...because it promotes growth and prepares us for the next season.
So this morning...we rested in the thought that He holds all things in our life in His almighty hands.  The sun is shining as we look ahead to the weekend.  But first, we will enjoy coffee, time with God, and puppy snuggles.
