We need to call an exterminator!

I turned around to grab the towel this morning and my heart leaped to my throat.  I didn't scream......but almost!  I quickly remembered we don't have little lizards like that here!
On our bed after my shower, I found a huge ant.
Our two youngest were in cahoots this morning and both "had something they needed to ask me" while I tried to close my door to get dressed.  "What?  Can't you wait for just a minute and let me finish?" I begged.  "Have fun getting dressed!" they giggled as they backed away from me.  As I reached for my drawer, I glanced around the room and found this right in front of me.  Good try!  If we lived in the southern states...it would be more believable!  I remember the little things down in Orlando.
It was a rough day in our house!  Creatures everywhere!  It is a good thing we cleaned today!

A song that I want to find the music for!

While listening to the radio via internet this morning, I heard a song again and I want to find the music!  What a wonderful reminder of how God works in our lives!

"Yesterday's trials give me strength for today and serve to remind me that He'll make a way.  Night time is over and now I can see!  That yesterday's battles...are today's victories!"

I don't have to keep banging my head against the wall.  But how often do I?!

A Happy Birthday To Me!

"This is your day...we will do what you want to do." Ted said.  Grandma and Papa took the kids and we had the day to enjoy together...a date day!  That was the best present...a date with my husband...and a BR Jamoca waffle cone.  I received many hugs and "Happy Birthday!"s before and at church.  Being in my forties...isn't so bad!  I am thankful for the many blessings from our Heavenly Father...and another year is truly a gift!
Chicago freeway.  Sears Tower.  Lights.  Speed.  91 degrees at 9:00pm.  Fun day.

Sharing lunch with my girls...

is always a fun thing to do!  We got another "girl's day" this week when Teddy went to help Papa.  I saved the "fortunes" because they made me laugh.  The girls read their little slip from their cookies...trying to understand "if they are not true, why do they put them into the cookies?"
Alisa's...Something unusual will happen at work or school next week.  (Um, as of yesterday, yes...we are going to start school on Wednesday...surprise!!!  Ah...the flexibility of homeschooling...and a Mom and Dad that reserve the right to change their minds.  That way we will take some time off later to go see Grammy and Grampy.)
Ashlynn's...You will soon have the opportunity to improve your finances.  (After explaining to her what finances are, she looked at me and asked, "How am I going to do that?  I have money saved already in my bucket.")
Mom's...Don't underestimate yourself.  Your social skills are needed by others at this time.  (That made me laugh.  I have several projects I am working on that are ministry oriented and Wednesday night's kids program was two days away.)
It's a good thing they make these "fortunes" so general and all encompassing!  That way they fit every person, no matter what age!  I know some people put alot of stock into fortunes and lucky numbers and such.  For us, we know that God is the One who controls every event in our life.  We are not left to random chance...and we are so grateful for that!  We always get a good chuckle when we go out to lunch and talk about...life.

How I entertain myself after all my chores are done!

It is sad but true...I see where my children get it!  I walked out of the room to check on the kids, and when I walked back into the room, this is what I see!  I am a mess!  Every project...I work myself out of space!  I have been struggling with new and easy stamping ideas for a friend.  I have even been re-listening to Christmas songs chosen for the Christmas program in hopes that I will be inspired to create Christmas cards.  It is not helping, but I do know for sure I chose the right songs to support the message of Christmas in the program!  So...so far...that makes me feel like I accomplished something...besides making a mess!
To my friend...the ideas are coming...slowly but surely!  It's a good thing I have other crafty friends with fun ideas too.  And Mom...I need to borrow your nativity set!  Back to the regularly scheduled season, there are dripping wet clothes from sprinkler fun to be dried.

Title 1: Putting Words In My Mouth Title 2: A Silent Observer Title 3: What Will Happen in Teen Years?

As I sat enjoying the quiet of the morning and my second cup of coffee, angry words floated down the hallway and an assault was taking place on the bathroom door.  Drama on a calm morning from daughter number two, "Hurry up, I need to do my hair.  Give me the brush.  You are taking too long.  AAAASHHHH, give me the brush.  NOW!  I'm telling Mom!"  Stomp, stomp, stomp to the kitchen.  Pause. Stomp, stomp, stomp back to the door, "Mom, said you need to give me the brush right this minute or you are in big trouble." Pause.  Bang, bang, bang.  "AAAASHHHH, give me the brush. FINE, you are just a big meanie who takes too long in the bathroom."  Stomp, stomp to her room.
I was not given the chance to be anything other than the audience.
I was only three stomps away from being able to help her.
Sometimes...they do need to work out these little battles!
There are times for Mom to step in too.  This time, the only help I would have given...would have been to direct her attention to other things that she could do while she was waiting.  Her sister knows what buttons to push...and it works every time.  Maybe that is why I wasn't consulted this time...she wanted to do her hair in her time frame...and actually coming to me wouldn't have gone in her favor.  So now, I do have to step in and spend a little time with "the girls".
I have to say I sat stunned...by how quickly such peace and quiet can disappear...and in fear of what we will be battling from here on out.  I can't and won't be the silent observer on this issue...girls don't need to act that way...and won't in this house!  There is a teachable moment here...and they will hear my words...out of my mouth...based on God's Word of how we are to treat others!  Even sisters!

Happy Friday!

A package of mixed seeds had sunflowers in it!  Our mini sunflower bloomed right outside our back door.

Another request for a campfire

It is amazing how clean our yard gets when the kids want to have a fire!  They fill up the wagon with sticks to feed the fire!
Marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate are also important parts!
It is a perfect way to get rid of boxes and mail that you don't want to go into the trash!
And...when you hear yourself say things like, "Uh, glowing embers of orange...on the ground, end of the stick, in the fire pit...mean fire...and could burn you...watch out.  Sit down.  Quit waving your stick.  Do you have to sit so closely to each other?"...you know it is time to be done for the evening.  They usually do pretty well...but last night...safety wasn't really a concern of theirs...and this Mom finally had to speak up.  I couldn't take "a poke in the eye with a burning stick" last night.  It had been a pretty eventful day...and I had lost the rest of my nerves when Alisa's blood was drawn earlier!  Moms can only handle so much in one day.

A slushie can make some things better...

or maybe it was the band-aid.
or maybe it was the handful of Reese's miniature cups from the nurse.
or maybe it was a quick stop to see Daddy.

Not sure...but she is smiling again!

We had to go for a general physical as we send paperwork on to a new hospital...new doctor...new city...due to new insurance.  It overwhelms me when I look at all the hoops we have had to jump through and paperwork and phone calls to make the switch.  I was not thrilled about this process, but I have accepted it.  I have been surrounded with helpful people, and I am grateful!  To follow the orders for the new doctor and protocol, they wanted recent bloodwork since Alisa has had contrast with her scans four times.  I understand the importance of checking her kidney function and etc.  She...however...was not happy with this news and her love for needles has escalated to sheer terror.  Thankfully, we were the only patient at the diagnostic office with two very kind nurses!
It is not fun to put Alisa through this.  My eyes get teary.  My heart beats faster.  My palms get sweaty.  But we need to be ready for our appointment in Chicago on October 14 with a new neurosurgeon.  We are due for the MRI scan to see how Alisa is healing inside.  We don't have any symptoms, but there is always concern after an active day.  God has been so good to us.  He has provided each step of the way.  We will trust Him for good scans and continued healing!
You can be sure there will be a stop for some sort of treat...it could be another slushie!

Tastes of summer

This is how a city girl makes pickles...a little bowl at a time with shared cucumbers from a friend's garden...cause I'm the only one that likes them!

Um, yuck!

Just looking at all the gunk that the RO system takes out of our drinking water!  The water that the city leaders say is ok to drink.  Both filters start out white...and the dentist wants our kids to drink this for the fluoride they will get?!  Give me the bottled or filtered water, please!  I think there is more to worry about than the effects on our teeth!

Losing it...yet again!

He is pretty proud of himself!  He pulled his tooth out yesterday morning...it was bothering him!  Now...all he wants for Christmas is three of his top teeth...well, 2 and a half...the one is starting to come in.  No apples or corn on the cob for this kid!  The upside...his straw fits without opening his mouth...and that is cool when you are seven!

For my friend...I am working on it...SEE!

I started by gathering all the Christmas stamps.  Then I looked for ideas...it is hard to think Christmas thoughts when it is so hot and humid!

I played with a few things.  I found some other fun things on Friday.  I am pacing myself.  Ha ha ha!  I should have it together by the end of September.  Hee hee!

For me!

I got an early birthday present yesterday from a friend!  Funny thing...I had to stop and think..."Oh yeah, it is my birthday in a couple days!"
Thank you for reminding me, friend!

A Day In The Country Ends

We played more games in the afternoon.
Tug of War was a pretty fierce competition.
We separated into two teams...1-3 grades and 4-6 grades for safety purposes!
Egg races around the windmill anyone?
I didn't hard boil any of the eggs...and several eggs survived numerous bounces!
We tried to find Needles in a Haystack too!
They worked together as a team to find the 48 new yellow pencils.  I love how the big kids helped the little kids!!!
Ice cold watermelon and spitting seeds!
The water balloons helped cool each team!
Pastor joined us for the afternoon and shared another challenge.  We aren't to be a camouflage Christian!  Does your life show you are a Christian by what you talk about?   What you do?  Where you go?
The kids listened...but the adults listened too!
We cooled off on the trip back to the city and learned which team won.  The Red team...Cornhuskers...had 10,850 points and the Blue team...Haybalers...had 10, 400 points!  The kids went home with their bandanas and mosquito bites for souveniers.  The adults went home with mosquito bites and tired bodies!

A Day In The Country

All summer, we have had a contest in junior church between the Cornhuskers and the Haybalers.  Each child earned their bandana when they said our memory verse.  They have earned points by attending, bringing their Bible, answering questions, Sword drills, quiet seat prize, and visitors brought to church.  Today, we loaded up the bus and came out to Farmer Jon's for a Day in the Country!
We played lots of games!  The first one...Farmer's Race...dress up in boots, flannel shirt, gloves, and hat and run around the windmill.  We did adjust a little for the younger group.  The boots were bigger than their legs!

We had many helping hands!  Without a team of workers...this day would not have run so smoothly!  A big thank you to Farmer Jon and his family, to our Papa and Grandma (lovingly referred to as "the lady in the red shirt"), to our church family who provided food, to our bus driver, and to our pastor.
This city group got a small taste of country life.
We played a game with pink water balloons called, "When Pigs Fly".
We learned how to shuck corn off the cobs!  It was a learning game!!
We had lots of food, lemonade, snacks, and water bottles!
We sang some songs while our food settled.  Then Ted gave a challenge from God's Word.
The reality of the fires of hell are what make the ministry we have with our children so important!  Our group is capable of understanding what God expects of them!  Sometimes...we spend more time on games and snacks...and forget the whole reason for children's programs.  It is not to get numbers.  It is not to have the showiest programs.  It is to reach souls for Jesus Christ...to snatch them from the reality of those flames.
God's Word is true.  We need to proclaim the whole counsel of God...to our children!
"It is better to build a child right, than to rebuild an adult!"
