August 14th...the trip from Santa Cruz to Vallegrande
A 7:30 in the morning walk to the restaurant for breakfast before we leave the big city.
Breakfast outside...saltinas and a Bolivian version of a smoothie. Girls had strawberry juice with milk and Teddy had banana. The adults had coffee and tea.
Nescafe! No cream. And yes...it wasn't my usual cup of coffee but it tasted good.
Warm and tasty...much like our "potpies or pasties" here in the states.
Ashlynn, Alisa, and I rode with Karen in the taxi. Ted and Teddy rode with Bud in his vehicle.
We had to stop for gas...and everyone has to be out of the vehicle! Two gals came up to sell us a variety of items...we got sugared peanuts. They were yummy!
Sights as we drove out of the city...so many familiar things...yet so many things unique to Bolivia!
We stopped at a toll plaza and gals mobbed the taxi trying to sell tangerines...smelled so good! Karen purchased a bag from this place...her usual place she buys them as they leave the city.
No stop lights as we left the city center...speed bumps slow traffic down!
Road construction...
A lunch stop in Samipata...our half-way point. We ate fried chicken...that was delicious.
The owner came in to shoo out chickens who came in and were strutting around as we dined...it was quite different than American dining. The bathrooms were our first introduction to "make sure you have kleenex or something with you" and hand sanitizer is a must! All I said was, "God...You are aware of things I am not...and I will trust you for protection!"
Another stop for gas...
Cactus...didn't realize we would see this type of plant here.
Enjoyed the fresh picked tangerine...and threw the skins/seeds out the window.
Road workers...
Our turn off!
All along the roads or in the villages...these are graves.
The grand valley...our destination!
