On the twenty-third day of December...

lots of lazing around!

Lots of Christmas specials...
carols in the air...
"It's Christmas Eve eve!"

Silent night...

all is calm and all is quiet.  It has been one of those days...I've been covered in thread and fabric particles, phone all messed up, computer acting sluggish, wash still in dryer which equals lots of wrinkles, bad supper plan, a water catastrophe, unfinished business, and here I sit still awake.
Psalm 46:10
Be still...and know...that I am God.
He never changes.
His words are true.
I can trust and obey His words without hesitation or fear of regret...
even on wrinkled, fraying thread filled days.
Today...was another of His gifts to me.
Tomorrow...is never promised...yet there is hope!

Of all the gifts that I have been given this year...

Romans 5:1-6
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:  by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.  And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also:  knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope:  and hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.  For when we were yet without strenth, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

We have put much thought into each and every gift that we have picked out for others this Christmas.  Our children have surprised us with the thought behind each gift they picked out.  As I spent time reading God's Word and then stumbling upon this article, I realize that God has blessed us with the perfect gifts this year.  It has been a tough year, but God is at work and we rejoice!

"In this verse, Paul outlines a chain reaction that is put into place when followers of Jesus respond to difficult circumstances in the right way. The chain begins with suffering but ends with hope: suffering - perseverance - character - hope.
Suffering (or tribulation) is translated from the Greek word ‘thlipsis’, which means to be under pressure. The term was used of squeezing olives in a press in order to extract the oil, or of squeezing grapes to extract the juice. When we are “squeezed” by difficult circumstances, the Lord is trying to extract perseverance from us.
Perseverance is a spiritual fortitude that bears up under, and is made even stronger by suffering. It is like the resolution of a marathon runner to keep running in spite of the difficulties encountered. Perseverance leads to character. The Greek term denotes character of a “proven” nature – like precious metals that have been tested and found pure. This, in turn, leads to a deeper hope in the glory of God.
Like a muscle, hope will not be strong if it goes unused. It is in suffering that we exercise hope by persevering and by being tested and proved pure in the midst of seemingly hopeless circumstances. This process results in an even deeper conviction of the reality and certainty of that for which we hope (Romans 4:18-19).
The harder nails are hit, the deeper they are driven. Sufferings drive us to a deeper level. When we feel the pain of that first domino’s fall...that chain reaction...we can be confident that when the last one falls, Christ will have produced in us a deeper certainty in His goodness and in our destiny as children of God."

We rarely think of tribulation as a gift!  But when I see the promise of what tribulation produces because of faith in Christ...because of God's grace...patience, experience, hope...because of the love of God shed in my heart...I can rejoice in the hope of the glory of God!  What a gift! He always has what is best for me in mind!

On the twenty-second day of December...

the only snowballs we will see this Christmas!  The weathermen are telling us about 40 degree temperatures for Christmas.  We'll be thankful for good weather for all those traveling!!!

Will work for chocolate!

When I made these cards for a friend, I did it because I enjoy making cards.  She was so excited and grateful...and that was worth every minute of time spent creating!
To show her appreciation...a note and an extra special treat of chocolate!
Not necessary...but appreciated.

More sweets and treats!

A thoughtful gift of a barrel of Christmas pretzels...
turns into one of the ingredients in two sweet treats for more sharing.

Rice cereal (or corn), pretzels, and M&Ms...
covered in white chocolate.

Pretty and crunchy!

A new recipe found online the other day...salted chocolate caramel pretzel bark...

YUMMO!
1 cup of butter
1 cup brown sugar
bag or barrel of pretzels
12 oz. bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips
sea salt
Line a pan with foil.  Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Melt butter and add sugar.  Simmer and allow to bubble but not boil for about 3 minutes.  I found it took a little longer.  Pour over the single layer of pretzels when the caramel is browned. Bake for 5 to 7 minutes.  Let cool while you melt chocolate.  Spread chocolate over the pretzels and caramel.  Sprinkle with sea salt.  Cool in the fridge for an hour.  Break apart...making sure to remove the foil.

The saddest part of my day...we've used up all the chocolate chips I bought...and are now at a stand still in the goodie making department.

A special Christmas concert

Sunday night at our church we enjoyed the MBBC Percussion Ensemble.

The platform was packed with a variety of percussion instruments.

What a beautiful way to spend a Sunday evening!  The music filled the auditorium...and our hearts with sounds of Christmas songs and carols.

We had our Sunday night supper and broke out the treats from the Sunday morning treat bags.

On the twenty-first day of December...

caroling in the rain!?
Fa la la la la, la la la la!

A busy day of sewing...

so some special little people can "nestle all snug in their beds" with new Christmas pillowcases and have "visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads".  For the proclaimed "busiest day of the year at the post office", I was in and out of there in five minutes!  Color me surprised!

Homemade noodles and chicken to share with family for tonight's supper.
A cozy day of sharing...we are enjoying our Christmas break already!
Our favorite part...sleeping in and lounging about...and visits with special people.

On the twentieth day of December...

lots of Christmas cards.
